Laundries and financial crisis

A group of students in the US were trying to study the impact of 2009 financial crisis by looking into the activity of . . . a laundry.
They noticed that more people were bringing dirtier clothes because they could not financially afford to go to the laundry once a week as they used to do.
People were also taking more time to go get their clothes back because they were not able to pay for the service provided. They basically were waiting until they get paid by their job to go get their clothes back.
